There are many options for breakfast near Hannam BnB. How early do you want to eat and how choosy are you about your food?

We are thrilled to announce that the bakery next door to us, Lilion or 릴리언, now opens at 9:00am Tuesdays through Sundays. Lilion offers delicious coffee and teas, fresh squeezed orange juice, pastries and breads that are prepared faithfully to their French origins, a handful of more typically Korean sweet & savory bakery offerings and scrumptious, well-balanced sandwiches. If you then ignore the two 24-hour CU convenience stores (1) a few steps away with their selection of snacks, drinks and fast foods, the next closest opportunity for an earlier breakfast is Passion 5 or 패션5 (2), famous in Korea. They open at 7:30am daily and in addition to tasty and beautiful pastries and desserts offers salads, sandwiches, rolls and wraps, bagels and cream cheese, breads, donuts, and of course coffee. A short walk to Itaewon-ro at the top of our hill.

Approximately the same distance from us but in the opposite direction is Blue Bottle Hannam Cafe or 블루보틀 한남 카페 (3), a three to four minute walk down to Hannam-daero near Gourmet 494. This is a highly regarded coffee shop with a fair amount of seating. They have a small pastry selection and some waffle choices, sweet or savory, and open at 8am on weekends, 9am weekdays.

A few more minutes down the road is the Paris Baguette Hannam Branch (4), near the Hannam Ogeori (Hannam-dong five-way intersection) and Soonchunhyang Hospital. They open at 7am every day, have plenty of seating in the back and carry pastries, breads, snacks, sandwiches and more.

Across from Paris Baguette is a 7-Eleven convenience store where you can get a hundred types of cup ramen, small sandwiches and wraps, gimbap, and of course all kinds of snacks, sodas, coffee, etc. The only potential value of going here instead of the CU right on our own street is this 7-Eleven has a few seats in front of the store. They should be open 24×7.

Starbucks (스타벅스, in Korean) fans will find the Suncheonhyang Entrance Branch (5) on the next block west of Paris Baguette, opening 7:00am on weekdays and 8:00am on weekends.

A few steps up the street from the Paris Baguette are Isaac Toast (이삭토스트) and on the next block, Egg Drop (에그드랍). These two shops feature similar fare. Most of their food will probably seem sweet for American tastes unless compared to something like a McDonald’s McGriddle sandwich. Both open at daily 7:30am but Isaac Toast may be closed Sundays. These are far from the only options. The Subway sandwich shop just before the hospital opens 8am and on weekdays, Salady next door opens early too.

Another option to consider in that area of Hannam-dong is a Korean breakfast or a “hangover breakfast” (everything from bibimbap to pork belly, also Thai food) at any of the 24-hour restaurants near the hospital, both on the main roads Daesagwan-ro and Daesagwan-ro 34gil and in the network of narrow roads south of the hospital. There are at least a dozen places from which to choose! One unusual stand-out there is a dumpling shop called DanDang (단당) or “Simple Sugar”, opening daily at 8am, but it is a small shop with only a few seats.

On the east side of Hannam-daero near UN Village is Pancakes Original Story or 팬케익 오리지널 스토리 (6). They have about a half a dozen small tables, and one or two outside. They serve familiar and tasty American style breakfast options and provide a bottle of what claims to be real maple syrup, though we have our doubts. Open most mornings at 8:00am.

Most people probably would not think of Baskin-Robbins (배스킨라빈스) as a breakfast place but their Hive Hannam Branch (7) near UN Village has bagels and cream cheese, sandwiches, wraps, waffles, salads, and coffee in addition to many ice cream flavors, of course. Fun for everyone and should be less than a twenty-minute walk! They open at 7:30am daily. Sorry, we just noticed their hours have changed and their breakfast options have disappeared. We will update the map shortly.

If you need to get your day started VERY early, the McDonald’s Itaewon Branch (맥도날드 이태원점) is open 24 hours (8) and starts serving their breakfast menu items at 4am every day.

Also in Itaewon is Original Pancake House Itaewon Branch (9). This is a legitimate branch of North America’s pancake house chain that started in Portland Oregon, with a large menu of pancakes, waffles, french toast, crepes, eggs and omelettes, salads, bottomless house coffee and fountain sodas, and more. They open at 8:00am every day and have lots of tables. The map needs to be updated – they have moved closer to us, to the 2nd floor of the Hamilton Mall, outside Itaewon Station exit 1.

There are also many restaurants nearby with brunch hours – opening around 10:00-11:00am – but they have not been included in this list.
